12/15/10

So this morning was very interesting. I was late (like always), but it was for a good reason. My cat got stuck in a tree. I tried to get him down, but he wasnt really listening, so thats what made me late to school. I  even missed our small Civil War presentation, which I felt bad for. Anyways, when I came in this morning and noticed that Cale, a old friend of mine, and his mom were visiting the school. I heard that he disliked SWHS so my mom suggested OH to his mom. Well I got a few things done for FLVS today. Brain break was cold because we went outside but it was still fun. I had taken my shoes off to run in the grass, and when we left the green my feet were completely numb. It was pretty painful. For lunch my mom and sister met me and we went to Shades At The Loop. It was really good. Music was good but it wasnt as successful as usual. For the last FLVS I read a few things but didnt get nay assignments done. Plus I also got caught up in watching these ridiculous videos on youtube, so thats always a bit of a distraction. Alright, well time to go home. Unfortunately I have to leave for Memphis tomm for an early Christmas.

It tuesday, and its getting closer and closer to Christmas. I missed this morning whip which was pretty disappointing, but its alright. I went straight into FLVS. I read some things for chemistry but the assignment that goes along with it is going to take some time. For spanish I had to call my mom and remind her to this audio recording responding back about this activity I did with her. Thankfully she did it right after I called her, so I got that turned in:) Our brain break was inside again today, because it was to cold. We played this game where you had to toss this certain object around the room without making any noise, and without stepping anywhere. I ended up winning, which was pretty surprising! PBL didnt really happen today because we have been focusing on ending our first semester of FLVS. For lunch I went to Cowgirl Kitchen, and it was yummy. When I came back to school we watched Channel One, then got back on FLVS. During that period I did a geometry assignment and got a 8 out of 10. Wooo! I dont feel very well right now, so Im about to go home.

For our morning meeting we did a whip that was What is your favorite commercial? I had a hard time thinking of any so I just said the Gieco ones. Those are usually pretty good. For FLVS block I worked on this collaboration assignment in Chemistry with Mira. It wasn't that hard actually and we did it pretty quick. It was to cold to go outside for brain break this morning so we stayed in and played a few things. PBL was next and me, Mira and Leah had to find a way to present our long Civil War project. Mr. Randy came up with an idea of making a short commercial advertising our project. We just need people to look it up and watch it. We worked and filmed this commercial till it was music time. In music we listed all the songs we have done. We also worked on TNT and Gives You Hell. I worked on FLVS a little more after music and now its almost 3:30.

The rest of the day was pretty good. I worked a lot on my Civil War paper. I think I got a lot done. Although Kylie, McKenzie, Leah and I got a little distracted for quite some time. It is only about 11:30, but I have only gotten a few things done. There is only a few of us at school today because a lot of them are at Disney. We only have four high schoolers here today, but thats probably a good thing because we can get more done that way. This morning I completed a spanish quiz and did alright on it. My grade in spanish is a 92%.  I might redo the quiz though. Now, for the past few hours I have been working on my Civil War essay. Its a huge paper and I am only half way through it. Ill probably end up working on this paper for the rest of the day. Last night I went to Barnes and Nobel and I bought my choice book. Its called One Night, by Lauren Barnholdt. I hope it will be good. Now, back to my Civil War paper.

Its been a long time since we were at school, like a week or two. We started out with a whip, and the question was "What was one thing you did over the Thanksgiving Break?" I answered that I went to Memphis and visited my family, along with going to a really bad Ole Miss game.  We had our FLVS block, and I noticed I got suspended out of my Geometry class! I guessed it was because I havnt called to complete our monthly call in a while. I called her right after I saw the suspension and of course, it was because of the over due monthly call. She fixed everything which was good, and I'm pretty sure I have learned my lesson. Next was our brain break and we played Octopus Tag, and a relay race. After that we did our HS PBL. It was interesting today because we all joined on a shared doc and each picked a color to answer the questions about what we learned in the book. After everyone was done, we could read each others and agree or disagree. Lunch was good, then we played kickball. I wasn't really feeling kick ball today so I went and sat on the beach:) It has been breezy and gray all day, so the ocean was just perfect! It was so nice. After that, we had music and worked on our songs to perfect them. Next we were supposed to be working on our Civil War project but we were pretty much done. Mira, Leah and I got pretty distracted for a while because we discovered it was Cyber Monday where all the online stores have sales! Of course, its time to clean.

Today was a pretty good day, but I was really tired. We started out with a whip. The question was "what was your most vivid nightmare?" I couldnt really think of any, but then I remembered about the dream I had a few nights ago. I had gotten kidnapped, and it was pretty creepy. We worked on FLVS and I got a spanish lesson done, and read most of a geometry lesson. We had some visitors today. It was a dad, and two children. They just wanted to check out the school and see how it works. The kids played brain break with us and it was pretty fun. We first played tongue, and this time I was the tongue. I have never been the tongue and truthfully never wanted to be. After that we played Octopus Tag. During PBL we completed our Civil War project! It looks really good too:) After lunch, and tennis we worked on more FLVS and I really didnt get much done because I can never focus enough later in the day. Although, we did send our experts our presentations! I cant wait to see if they respond. Its about time to clean of course, but tonight is the midnight premier of Harry Potter. Its the first part of the last one:( The whole high school is going, plus some of the middle schoolers. It will be fun!

Today is Wednesday November 22, and there is only one more day until our Thanksgiving Break. This morning we did a whip with the question "What was the biggest accomplishment you have ever done in your life." I had a hard time thinking of something, but then I remembered that when I was about ten I was saving money for really anything, and my mom at the time, was working with an organization that donated money to Africa and helped build schools for the children. I was so inspired by my mother, that I decided to donate all of my savings which had an outcome of $400. I have never regretted getting rid of all that money:) We worked on FLVS this morning and I got some geometry done. I sent in my literary analysis to Mrs. Sylvia, and she replied right away. She told me I had done well on the paper, but I just needed to change a few minor things. I was glad she liked it because I had a hard time writing this paper. Before PBL began, Mrs. Amy sat the high schoolers down and talked to us about having a high school party on the 10th of December. It sounds interesting, and I hope it will be fun. She also told us that our books dont have to be completely read until the Monday we come back to school! Such a relief. Mira, Leah and I almost have our project done, and we luckily found two more experts to look over it! Music was fun, and we are learning how to play "Winter Wonderland". I love Christmas music, its always so happy.

Yesterday I got back from New York City and had  GREAT time:) But, of course that caused for a tiring day today. Mr. Tim took group pictures today for something (I'm not sure what for.) We worked on FLVS for a while and I got two three assignments done. When everybody was at brain break, I stayed back and listened to Mrs. Sylvia give me advice on my writing paper. It really helped me. PBL came and Me, Mira and Leah are almost finished with our civil war project. It looks really cool! Lunch came, and I stayed inside and did stuff on my computer. When everybody went to tennis I worked on more FLVS. Now everybody from the high school side is basically gone for their personal reasons, so it is just me, Connor, Hunter, and Nathan to clean up everything:(

This morning our whip was "If you had to get a tattoo today, what would you get, and why?" It was very interesting to hear what everybody chose. I chose I sparrow on my wrist because I really sparrows, and the inside of my wrist dosnt seem like a bad spot. The first FLVS I worked on a spanish lesson, that I am not even close to, but Hannah and Alyssa told me I could go ahead and complete it with them. We had to make a small poster in spanish. It is supposed to be an invitation to "my block party". It wasnt to hard, but it took up the whole period. For brain break we played Sharks and Menos, and a relay race. Next we had PBL. The high schoolers discovered that we have to present our hybrid car slide shows tomm! We mainly focused on how we were going to do the presentation and we practiced two times. Hopefully it wont be to bad! Thankfully it was lunch next because I was starving. Mira, Leah and I worked on our civil war project due very soon, but we got some of it done today. I stayed in the school instead of watching them play kickball. When everybody came back we went to music and played TNT, and Gives You Hell. After music I worked on more FLVS and got a geometry assignment mainly done. Now it is almost time to leave, and Im tireeddd!

Hello,


This morning we had our community time, as usual. That led straight into our FLVS session. I got some chemistry done. For brain break we played the counting game, then one footed steal the bacon. I didnt get to play steal the bacon because my shins STILL hurt:( Lunch came pretty quick, and then everybody headed to tennis. While everybody was at tennis, Mr. Randy helped me with some more chemistry. We had our community after tennis, and I shared my Justin Bieber pictures with everyone. It was pretty funny. Next was another FLVS session, and I didnt really get much done then. Now it is almost the end of the day. Today I have to go to SWHS for dance tryouts. I havnt danced in a while, so we will see how this goes.

Essential Question

High school has started to work on our newest project for the civil war. We, as a group looked up a few things to help us better understand some things that are important to our project. Next we took a few minutes and created essential questions ideas. Now with the choice of essential questions, we each have to pick one we are interested in.




Essential Question: How did Abraham Lincoln's decision to change his view on slavery affect the outcome of the war?


I would like this project to be a group project.

Today was a pretty fun day. We did no work:) ! This morning we completed "community" activities.  Randy and Amy split us up into five teams to draw a vampire that represents all of our qualities and strengths. My team was Nathan, Kylie, and Davis. We had to pick a name for our vampire. We came up with Kaoss Anator. I thought it was pretty good. Randy and Amy sent our teams to do a scavenger hunt. It was sort of difficult tasks but it was fun. Community to me means like family. Our community at school is very strong. We each have a strengths and weaknesses, so we balance each other our pretty well. All of us together can complete a lot of tasks. Well, thats what I think community means.


Now we have to build a ton of scare crows for tomm!

Today is a Wednesday, an it was pretty good. We did our usual FLVS block. I got a few things done, but I could have got more. Brain break we played zombie tag, tongue and freeze tag, but it seemed really short. When we came back from brain break Mrs. Amy had us watch a video that somebody sent her. it was really interesting and the video was very cool. The video made me think about a lot of things about education. We worked on FLVS again till lunch. Today I walked to Cowgirl Kitchen and had some chips and queso. It was awesome:) Of course, after lunch we all headed to the field to play kickball. I still can not play because my shin splints, but it was fun to watch! Today was an intense game. Music was next and we played the song "Gives You Hell". It was a lot of fun, and I thought we did well. Now its time to clean, and i have kitchen:(

Hey!


Today was a pretty good day at OH. Tuesday's are always a little bit more different then usual because of tennis. We did FLVS all morning and had a brain break. Today we played steal the bacon, tongue, and blob tag. I got  a few things done which is good. I could not go to tennis today because of my shin splints, so for lunch I ate chips and queso at cowgirl kitchen:) It was very good. For PBL, I tried to decide what I should do for a project. I have decided I am going to do something on Seattle, which is where I am going in a few days! Sorry this is soo short but the school portion of our day is about to end. Have to go clean!

Today was the dreadful PSAT. Everybody who was taking it had to go to SWHS at around 7:45, which is super early for me. I saw a few people I have known for a while. Luckily we all got to be in the same room together while taking the test, but there were still a few people that regularly attend SW. The test took some time, and it was a little difficult but it wasn't to bad. My mom picked me up and we went to the Seagrove Village Market for lunch:) I t was yummy. After we finished lunch she dropped me off at school. When i arrived at school it was about time for kickball so I headed down to the green and of course, everybody else was there already. I decided not to play this time because I lately have been getting shin splints:( The game was pretty close and super intense. Music was next, and we didn't get as much done as we hoped. Although, we did decide on the new kickball teams we created. Music ended and we came back in the high school side to work on whatever. Again...its about time to clean.

Hey,


Today is Tuesday, October 12 2010. I had to go to a doctors appointment today, so i missed about the first thirty minutes of school. When I got to school I went straight to my desk to do FLVS. I got a few things done today, I worked on a lot of chemistry, which I needed to. We had a family visit our school today for a while and their children played the brain break with us. We played a relay race, then blob tag. After that, we went back up and worked on more FLVS. We got an extended lunch today because of some confusion of when tennis started. I decided to play tennis today, and it was pretty fun, but kinda hot. It has become hot again! We had a little bit of PBL time to turn in our hybrid car essay, and now the day is almost over. Tomm morning we have the PSAT at SWHS:/ I havnt been there in a while so it will be weird to see everyone. Well, I have to go!

Hello!


Today was a pretty good day. I personally worked on FLVS a lot today. We of course had the two 90 minutes of work time with a brain break in between. We had tennis today but I chose  not to attend because I still had to catch up on my school work. I got a few things done in the hour everybody was gone. It was pretty quite. Art was a pretty quick period. In PBL we all have to choose a book we would like to read. Im reading "The Unwritten Rule". It's about a girl who is in love with her best friend's boyfriend! Honestly, I have already read the whole thing. I got it a few days ago, but it was so good that I accidentally read all of it before we were even supposed to start. I did my first geometry oral component yesterday, and got a 50/50! I was pretty nervous about it. Well, its been a tiring day, and I have to go clean.

Hey!


Today was a pretty fun day. This morning I came in about an hour late because I had a Doctor's appointment, so hopefully I didn't miss much! When i came in to school today everybody was working on FLVS. I got a few things done, but then the high school met and we had a discussion on our essay for the hybrid cars. We all wrote our first paragraph or more. When we were done writing we all went around and explained what the hardest part of writing the introduction was. We are recording each step we take in the writing process, which is pretty cool. Lunch came soon, and most of us decided to eat inside. We only had a short amount of time before it was time to head to the tennis courts for our lessons. We practiced hitting, and doubles. It was really fun. Lately I have been practicing tennis with somebody I know and my wrist has been very frustrating. It seems to hurt every time I play and I have no idea why. Today it was a little better, but still had some pain:( When we headed back to the school for art. We were told to get any kind of camera and take it of ourselves and upload it our computer screen. After everybody had a little fun with taking pictures of themselves, we we assigned to draw ourselves. Now, I'm not very good at drawing at all anyways, but I'm REALLY not good drawing faces, or myself. It was definitely a challenge, but it was pretty fun. After our time was up we taped our drawings on the board and decided who was who. Now once again, have to clean right now!

Hello, 


Today is monday October 4, 2010. Im so excited that its october, its one of my favorite months! Today at OH was pretty good for me. I came in a bit early today because I was little behind on some school work, but I'm pretty much caught up now:) We started out with a good FLVS session and I worked on a lot of spanish. For brain break we had a game of tongue, then did a relay race, then of course everyone's favorite, blob tag. We went back up and worked on some more FLVS but we did PBL time too. We just got assigned a essay on our hybrid cars project. Im not super excited about the project, and i know its going to be a challenge. Lunch time came around and i had a yummy lunch. It was really nice outside. It was a bit chilly but I love the cold! Since its monday we had our kickball game. People were missing today so we had to re-pick teams. It didnt end so well for my team today:( Next we had music. The high school worked on the song Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. Today was the first day for me playing it so I learned a few new things:) Music ended pretty quick, and we now we are working on our FLVS some more. The day is about to end and I'm very tired.

Hey,


Today is Wednesday, and it was a pretty good day. We continued on our standardized testing this morning which was pretty boring. We worked on FLVS for a long time today so I got a few things done which is always good. We had a good brain break today. We played steal the bacon(personally is NOT my favorite) and blob tag. It has been cooling down a lot outside lately which is AMAZING. I love cold weather so much. I had a nice lunch outside and enjoyed the slight breeze. After lunch we headed to the field to do our kickball game, but today we switched it up and went to another green field on another street. Both teams made a kicking line-up hoping it would be a good strategy. Today's hype for the game was a lot more than usual. Both teams played pretty good and we ended up tying. Mr. Randy ended the game after a few innings. We wanted to continue the game to see who would win, but it was time to head back up to school. That means friday we will continue the competition to see who is better! Now the day is about to end and I'm pretty tired. Got to go clean!

Lately at OH we have been busy, busy, busy. We have been working hard on FLVS, and on our PBL (project base learning). The high school students have been working on a project all together. Our essential question on our project is "Do hybrid cars really benefit the environment?". We have been working on it for the past few days and we are finishing it up. Each high school student working on this project has to send this project to an expert on hybrid cars! Today we took a standardized test for about an hour. We will continue to do this test for the next few days. FLVS has been pretty good. Since I'm still new to it, i get a bit behind at times. I started my Module Two in geometry and am close to the same placement for my spanish class and chemistry. Brain Breaks have been fun as always, we play a lot of blob tag, and steal the bacon. Kickball after lunch is intense as always also! My team has been struggling lately, but i know we will come back. The past few days have been pretty successful!


Oh, and I had a SPECTACULAR lunch with Mirrrra!:)!

Day 4, August 26, 2010

Dear Followers,


Today was a fun day. This morning was rainy for hours but it was nice. We gathered up for community check-in time and finished off the elementary kids' presentations. After that ended we had two 90 minutes focus times to work on anything. In between the two focus times we had a fifteen minute brain break. We had to have the break inside because it will still raining at the time. I worked on Prezi for our focus times. I got a lot done and learned some cool tricks for it. I also got to find out my teachers for my online courses on flvs.


Today was the first day to bring our own lunch, even though you could easily go to one of the restaurants on your own if you wanted to.  We went across the street to a grass field and everybody ate there. After we ate for about 30 minutes we headed to the other grassy field near the beach to play a game of football. It was pretty fun but people started getting tired after about 15 minutes because it was crazy hot outside.


We headed back upstairs to school for music class:) Randy sat everybody down to talk about what was going to go on. He told us about how our school is creating four bands this year. One elementary band, one middle school band, and two high school bands. After we decided the bands, the two high school bands took first music block for an hour and figured out what their band name is going to be, and what songs they wanted to play. It was a lot of fun watching and leaning all these different things.


An hour flew by and it was time to let the elementary and middle school bands to take second block music. I went back to my computer to do project base learning. Im pretty much done with my Prezi so now im writing this blog:) Today was a lot of fun. Im excited for tomorrow because its Friday!

Day 3, August 26, 2010.

Dear Followers, 

This blog is all about my adventures and experiences in OH Institute. I will be blogging everyday about what went on that day. Today, was a pretty good day. We got quite a lot in and I learned a ton. We started out with community check-in. Picking up from yesterday, we shared our mascots that we created with our team's.  We had about five teams that presented their creative mascot for the winning spot. After we finished presenting we all voted on one mascot to represent the school. My team, the viper won:) 

After we finished our community check-in, we moved on to  two 90 minute work times. Within 90 minutes, everybody had a chance to work on whatever they need to. I finished up a few things about Florida standards and moved on to a amazing website called Prezi.com. Prezi is a website that lets you plan out your writing or lets you make a convincing and entertaining presentation. Its a lot of fun too! I played with Prezi for a while, and got the feel for how it works. 


Lunch time came around soon enough. Today, we got to have a great lunch at the Cowgirl Kitchen. I got a simple cheese quesadilla and it was very good. These past few days we have been given free lunches at different restaurants and it has been fantastic. After lunch ended, we all headed to the grass field to play a game of kickball. I played for the first time today and actually had a lot of fun. It was very hot outside but that didn't stop anyone. It was a close game and it got pretty competitive. 


We headed back to school after the game and cooled off, while we listened to Randy speak about our first music class. I have never played an instrument in my life before, so I was pretty excited for music to start. When Randy finished telling us about the instruments and what we would be doing, we split into two groups and switched from the electric room to the acoustic room. Our first music class was all about just getting a feel for the instruments we were provided. Like I said before, I have never ever played an instrument before but this was a lot of fun! I got to play all these different things that I have never even picked up before. I am defiantly excited for the upcoming music classes:)


When music ended we all went back to our computers and worked for project base time for a while. I went back to prezi and worked on my planning, and discovered a few other cool things. The end of the day came pretty quick. After everyone cleaned up the rooms we all gathered together to watch the elementary kids' first ever presentation. Each elementary student made their own slide show and shared it with us. It was so great to see what all of their presentations were about. 


It was a great day at OH and I learned a lot:)
